ISLAND KRK
Vrbnik is situated at the northeast coast of the island of Krk. It is located immediately above the sea, on the 49 meter high cliff, which almost vertically dives into the sea from its north side, while there is steep road going from the port to the city. It is not a surprise that folk song mention it in the poem: "Vrbnik above the sea, high mountain"
Vrbnik is the city of Glagolitic-script, and Dukes of Frankopan, city of sacral ensembles, wine cellars and fortification sights. It also a sample of urban fitting into salvage beauty of nature, which means that it is one of most valuable urbane unit, because of its medieval structures and valuable single constructions.
KATUNAR WINERY
The coastal region of Croatia has a long-standing tradition in winemaking, which dates back to Ancient times. It gained acclaim thanks to the wines of Pucinia of which Pliny (1st century) says: "Her 86 years Julia Augusta could thank the wine of Pucinia for she drank only it and no other. It grows in coves along the Adriatic Sea, not far from the source of the Timava, on the ridge of a hill and bathed by the sea current. It is stored in a small number of amphorae and it is belived that there is no better remedy." It is on this tradition that villages throughout the island of Krk have based the production of their renowned wines, notably Vrbnik where such a tradition has survived to this day. The brothers Anton and Ivan Katunar have modernised the family tradition; they have built new cellars, introduced new technology and restored a century-old tradition of sparkling wine production. Alongside their renowned Žlahtina and red wines, they also produce sparkling wines.
Vrbnik
FUZINE, a town in the central part of Gorski Kotar, situated above the Licanka valley, which was drowned into the storage lake Bajer after the construction of a dam; elevation 732 m; population 740. The name originates from Italian (fucina: forging works). The settlement developed by gradual settling of the people from the neighbouring region of Vinodol, from the former Military Border and from Slovenia, which is still visible in the local dialects (chakavian, stokavian and kajkavian). Due to its favourable geographical location amidst a mountain forest, an abundance of water and fresh mountain climate, Fuzine is a rather well known tourist resort. The lunch will be organized at Bitoraj restaurant .
