The
Organizing Committee cordially invites you to Zagreb to take part in The14th
Ljudevit Jurak International Symposium on Comparative Pathology. This
year the Symposium is included in the 90th anniversary celebration
of Ljudevit Jurak University Department of Pathology. The objective of
this Symposium is the multidisciplinary approach to human and animal pathology.
All pathologists dealing with human and animal pathology are invited to
present their work. The main focus of this Symposium is Dermatopathology,
but papers fitting into other Symposium sections are welcome (see program
outline for details). We hope that you will enjoy both the scientific program
presentations and the social events we have organized. We also hope, that
you will find free time to explore our beautiful city and its surroundings.
Zagreb is the capital city
of Croatia, one of the oldest European countries. More than nine hundred
years old, Zagreb has a population of one million inhabitants, and boasts
20 theatres, 40 museums and galleries. Many of its streets and squares
are historical monuments and cultural heritage features. Zagreb is the
diplomatic, economic, business, cultural, commercial, sporting and scientific
center of Croatia. Among the many convention facilities in Zagreb there
are specialized halls for larger conventions and conferences, while accommodation
is provided in many of the city's upscale hotels.
Zagreb is conveniently
located close to most major European cities, and is connected to the rest
of the world by a state of the art telecommunication system. Foreign currency
can be exchanged for the local Croatian currency called the Kuna (according
to the published rates of exchange) in banks, official exchange offices,
hotels and automated bank machines. Regular working hours for banks and
post offices are from 8 A.M. to 8 P.M. Public telephones accept prepaid
phone cards only, which are available at newsstands and post offices. Northern
Croatia, including Zagreb, has a typical continental climate.
The
official language of the
Symposium is English. There will be no simultaneous translation.
All papers and abstracts will be published in the journal Acta Clinica
Croatica (Indexed in Excerpta Medica). Free electronic versions of the
journal can be found at http://www.acta-clinica.kbsm.hr./
Acta Clinica Croatica will be provided to each fully registered participant
prior to the Symposium at the registration desk. All registration forms
and abstracts should be returned to the Organizing Committee by April 1st,
2003. Microsoft Word files are preferred. Notification of acceptance and
categorization of the paper as an oral or poster presentation will be sent
to the presenting author no later than April 15th, 2003. Please note that
the abstracts of participants who do not pay the registration fee by April
15th, 2003 will not be published.
Oral presentations
should not be longer than 10 minutes, including 2 minutes for discussion.
An overhead projector and LCD projector will be available to the presenters.
LCD presentations are welcomed and recommended. A slide projector will
be available only upon request.
Poster presentations Each participant presenting a poster will have an available space of
120 cm high x 100 cm wide. Please use fonts at least 6 mm high, so that
text can be easily read at a 2-m distance. The title should be written
at the top of the space or poster with letters at least 25 mm high. The
exact number of each poster is as stated below. The posters should be fixed
on the board by adhesive tape that will be provided by the Organizers.
Handouts containing poster information are welcome. Poster discussions
will take place on Saturday. A maximum of 3 minutes will be allowed for
each poster discussion. Two slides may be used to present relevant data.
Slide seminars
will be held on Saturday in the main hall of the Multimedia Center Sestre
Milosrdnice University Hospital. Topics include:
1. Comparative Pathology of Human and Animal Tumors
2. Thyroid Cytopathology
The slide seminar cases will be available for viewing on our website
prior the Symposium.
All potential participants will have an opportunity to see the slides
and to submittheir opinions. The slides
and their diagnoses will be discussed during the slide seminar.
A Quiz
on pathology will be organized by Prof. Mikuz on Saturday morning. The
winner will be announced and awarded.
The Herman Jurak
Workshop on Rheumatological Pathology will
be held in the seminar room of the Multimedia Center Sestre Milosrdnice
University Hospital. Microscopes and biopsies for the workshop participants
will be also available.The main topic will
be psoriatic arthritis.
Notice: Workshop
on Rheumatological Pathology has been cancelled. Profesor Fassbender will
instead present a lecture about psoriatic arthritis. A Workshop
on Nontumors Dermatopathology will be
held in the seminar room of the Multimedia Center Sestre Milosrdnice University
Hospital. Microscopes and biopsies for the workshop participants will be
also available.
A reduced registration fee of 800 Kunas(100
EUR) will be offered until April 1st, 2003. The regular fee
after April 1st, 2003, will be 1200 Kunas (150 EUR). Abstracts
will not be published without payment of the registration fee. On site
registration fee payments will be accepted in cash only. Attendees at the
slide seminar, workshop on rheumatological pathology and workshop on nontumors
dermatopathology will be charged an additional fee of 400 Kunas (50 EUR),
which must be paid before May 1st, 2003. Advanced submission
of slides for the seminars and workshops is included in the additional
fee. A registration fee for accompanying persons/ guests of primary registrant
will be 200 Kuna (30 EUR).
Receipts will be issued to all participants who have fully paid
the registration fee.
The registration fee includes (for both primary registrants and guests)
all Symposium materials, access to the exhibition and all lectures, cocktails,
coffee breaks and the Symposium dinner.

The Symposium dinner will take place on Friday,
June 6th, at 8 P.M.
One-day tour to Hrvatsko Zagorje on Sunday, June 8th,
2003.

TO VELIKI TABOR CASTLE
Sunday, June 8th2003.
- Veliki Tabor is a fortified castle located on a beautiful hill near the
village of Desinic. The castle has been listed as a UNESCO world heritage
site and is situated adjacent to a hill site Gresna Gorica (the Hill of
Sinn) that harbors one of the most beautiful legends – The Legend of Veronika
Desinicka. Lunch will be held at a restaurant on the hilltop for excursionist
to experience the local Hrvatsko Zagorje atmosphere.
